Aerospace Machining Services | Aerospace CNC MachiningThe aerospace sector requires quality and precision in every part. Precision Waterjet & Laser offers stands apart from our competitors with extensive end-to-end manufacturing capabilities. We combine state-of-the-art cutting and metal fabrication technologies with decades of experience on aerospace projects, ensuring that we exceed all expectations for quality and customer service on every order.

Our aerospace expertise is second-to-none. We have worked with NASA, SpaceX, JPL, Lockheed Martin, and other aerospace OEMs and defense contractors of all sizes to provide accurate and reliable components used in advanced aerospace equipment. Our commitment to quality is part of our culture, as evidenced by our AS9100D with ISO 9001:2015 certification.

Key Capabilities

Many manufacturers must outsource pieces of their projects due to a lack of in-house capabilities. At Precision Waterjet & Laser, we are much more than a simple waterjet shop. With a fully capable machine shop and an advanced equipment portfolio, we can meet your project needs quicker. This grants us full control over the final quality of every part we produce and enables us to offer turnkey manufacturing solutions even on complex aerospace projects.

Our capabilities for the aerospace sector include:

Waterjet Cutting

Waterjet cutting has been a core competency since our inception, and we frequently add to our equipment portfolio to keep pace with the industry needs. We can cut materials from 0.001” to 12” in thickness, and our machines use a work envelope of 0.060” to 160” in diameter and width, 0.060” to 320” in length, and create edge finishes in the 1 to 5 range. All waterjet cutting tolerances are within ±0.005”. Our waterjet cutting capabilities can accommodate volumes ranging from single prototypes to long-term blanket orders.

Laser Cutting

As one of our primary specialties, we use high-powered CO2 lasers that feature 4400 kW of power, flying optics, and the ability to cut at 2, 3, or 5 axes. Our laser cutters can accommodate workpieces up to 80” by 160” with diameters up to 80”. We can achieve tolerances of ±0.002” on any material up to 1” in thickness.

Drilling and Milling

Our equipment portfolio includes a number of advanced computer numerical control (CNC) machining systems, including five vertical mills, one horizontal mill, and a precision lathe. We can achieve ±0.0005” tolerances for straightness, concentricity, and diameter, and ±0.001” on lengths over 24”. We can machine almost any ferrous or non-ferrous metal, plastics and polymers, glass, ceramics, composites, quartz, and wood. With a lifting capacity of 10,000 lbs., work envelopes up to 64” by 32” by 30” for milling, and work envelopes of 16” in length and 23” in diameter for turning, we can handle nearly any machining project.

Sheet Metal Fabrication

We offer an extensive array of sheet metal fabrication capabilities from our fully equipped machine shop, including metal stamping, punching, forming, bending, and AWS-certified welding. Our experienced machinists and engineers can provide rapid prototypes, streamlined designs, and large-scale production runs. With our experienced staff and state-of-the-art equipment, we can handle any metal fabrication project need.

Finishing

We offer a comprehensive range of in-house finishing capabilities, such as:

  • Anodizing
  • Black oxide coating
  • Cadmium plating
  • Chemical film coating
  • Chromate conversion coating
  • Chrome plating
  • Heat treating
  • Nickel plating
  • Painting
  • Passivating and cleaning
  • Powder coating
  • Solid dry film lubrication
  • Zinc plating
  • Assembly

Applications for Aerospace

Many manufacturers make generic claims about their capabilities for manufacturing aerospace parts and components. At Precision Waterjet & Laser, we can demonstrate our advanced capabilities through our extensive portfolio of completed projects. Here are some examples:

  • Bomber parts. We fabricated components for a defense contractor that were used in the wing of a military bomber plane to facilitate the controlled release of a bomb.
  • Our team manufactured structural gusset plates for use in the airframe of military aircraft. The gusset required us to fill, form, and prime it by hand.
  • Security panels. We developed and fabricated explosion-proof panels for use by an airline security firm.

We can create full designs using sketches and templates, or we can reverse engineer a design from a previously completed part. Through any design and development process, we offer suggestions for improvement along the way.

We have the certifications, the state-of-the-art machinery, and the experienced team necessary to support any aerospace project.
